Diet for high cholesterol

If your cholesterol level is high, it is recommended to eat more fiber. Here you will find tips on how to lower high cholesterol levels through a healthy diet.

Bread and whole grains

What is good for the cardiovascular system is also good for the whole person. This applies at least to nutrition, because recommendations for high blood pressure (hypertension) or high cholesterol are largely consistent with general recommendations for a healthy diet. Implementation is not that difficult - just try it!

Diet tips against high cholesterol levels

Unsaturated fatty acids, especially those found in vegetable oils such as rapeseed and olive oil, have a beneficial effect on blood pressure.

Eating fish several times a week - partly because of the omega-3 fatty acids it contains - can also have herring in tomato sauce.

Consume plenty of fibre. Dietary fiber in whole grain breads and vegetables, for example, binds bile acids and reduces cholesterol absorption in the intestine.

A little salt. Six grams of table salt daily is recommended. But since sausages, cheeses and finished products are already heavily salted, care must be taken when adding salt and cooking yourself.

Many green leafy vegetables, in addition to fiber, also contain folic acid, which can lower high homocysteine levels (a risk factor similar to high cholesterol).

Eggs, which are often denigrated due to high cholesterol, should not be avoided completely: they contain lecithin, which can lower the level of bad cholesterol.
