What is your body mass index?
Your BMI is a measurement of your body weight based on your height and weight. Although your BMI doesn't actually "measure" your body fat percentage, it is a useful tool for estimating a healthy body weight based on your height. Due to its ease of measurement and calculation, it is the most widely used diagnostic indicator to determine a person's ideal weight based on his height. Your BMI "number" will tell you if you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. However, given the wide variety of body types, distribution of muscle and bone mass, etc., it is inappropriate to use this as the sole or definitive indicator of diagnosis.
